Community Effort Bolsters Local Food Pantry

Instructions

In a heartwarming collaboration, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. and PS 60 in Woodhaven successfully organized a month-long drive to support the Sacred Heart Parish Ministries food pantry located in Glendale. This initiative gathered essential food items and personal care products from community members, significantly aiding local families facing financial challenges. The donated goods were officially handed over on June 5th, with the pantry's staff expressing immense appreciation for the overwhelming support received. Senator Addabbo highlighted the importance of community solidarity, praising the collective efforts that made this endeavor possible.

The Sacred Heart Parish Ministries food pantry has been serving numerous individuals and families monthly from Glendale and its surrounding areas. In recent years, the demand for food assistance has risen dramatically due to the lingering effects of the pandemic and ongoing inflation impacting grocery prices. To address these needs, the campaign collected various non-perishable items such as canned vegetables, pasta, rice, cereal, toiletries, soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.

One standout contribution came from Martin Colberg, president of the Woodhaven Residents Block Association, who generously provided a substantial amount of matzah. Meanwhile, PS 60 played a pivotal role by encouraging its students and their families to actively participate in this charitable cause. Through this involvement, the school integrated civic engagement and community service into an educational framework, fostering a sense of responsibility among young learners.

Located at 83-17 78th Ave., the Sacred Heart pantry continues to be a vital resource for many struggling households. This successful partnership exemplifies how collaborative efforts can make a tangible difference in people’s lives, reinforcing the power of community spirit and shared purpose.
